OUGD502 - Study Tasks 2 to 6

The main and primary reason that I have chosen these studios is that I believe they would each give me the best start to a career, they all (appear to) have manageable clients and operate in an organised manner. They are professional, not off-the-wall-crazy and would allow me to learn the basic industry skills which are transferable to a range of studios. Working for contemporary studios such as Snask straight out of University would give me great life experience with plenty of contacts, but at this stage I want to focus on gaining experience in grounded studios which take risks once a year, rather than with every brief.

Turner Duckworth

Turner Duckworth practice in the packaging and big brand business, I believe that my mature attitude and corporate desires to work on big accounts would allow me to hit the ground running with ambition and motivation here. My practice is currently focussing on drinks packaging and branding, I have worked on briefs where I have used Coke as a case study and even though this is just a part of their portfolio of accounts it is something that I would enjoy being a part of with enthusiasm.

Studio Environment and Location are the most important thing to me when choosing practices. The client base is important, however in my opinion a good practice will not just stick to one theme of design or employ just one type of client.

I feel that I answered this is task 3, however I do feel that it is important to me to constantly seek different forms of design, wether it be interior design, product design even internal architecture. A studio space with the passion and drive to do all of these, and one that gives me the opportunity to cross  over into each department would be a huge attraction for me.

Not only academically (to me this is actually less crucial) but more importantly in how you conceptualise your thinking, how you articulate yourself and more significantly, your ideas." - Blair Thomson of Exeter-based Believe in
